Invisalign continues to grow in popularity all over North America and beyond. It is a widely trusted and used product designed to straighten and align teeth for patients of all ages. Dr. Monica Neely is a preferred provider of Invisalign in the greater Oklahoma City area, and she continues to upgrade her skills and knowledge of Invisalign to provide exceptional experiences and service to her clients.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a complete alignment system that is used to treat misaligned teeth and a number of other issues. Invisalign was designed to replace traditional metal braces and provide a comfortable, discreet corrective experience for clients. Invisalign is the brand of clear braces that are used at Monica Neely Dentistry in Oklahoma City, OK. They are a retainer-based system that uses plastic aligners instead of metal brackets like traditional braces.
What are the Aligners Made From?
The aligners used are made from the custom-made thermoplastic material. The aligners resemble a tooth whitening tray. Each aligner is fitted for your teeth and adjusted as the treatment progresses. The plastic used to make Invisalign clear braces is perfectly safe to use in your mouth, and it fits comfortably on your teeth.
What Problems Can Invisalign Treat?
There are a number of reasons why Dr. Neely would suggest using Invisalign to correct issues associated with a clients teeth. These include:
- Poor alignment of the teeth
- Misaligned bite either underbite or overbite
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
- And more
Does Invisalign Hurt During Treatment?
For the most part, clients experience minimum discomfort associated with Invisalign treatment. Some clients report feeling discomfort during the first few days of wearing a new aligner, but that subsides once teeth start to shift into the desired located. The pain and discomfort are minimal compared to the discomfort of having traditional metal braces placed on the teeth. Besides the fact that there is no metal on your teeth, there are no metal wires sticking into the tissues in your mouth or scraping your mouth. They are very comfortable to wear once you get used to having them on your teeth.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign works by applying constant pressure to the teeth on the top and bottom arches of the mouth. They provide the same kind of results that traditional metal braces do, but they are often faster and more comfortable than traditional braces. Invisalign works so well because treatment starts with 3D imaging to determine the outcome before the aligners are ever made and placed on your teeth. This means that you can see the results of your treatment before it even starts! Many clients get really excited about seeing how their teeth will look and it encourages them to continue to follow the treatment protocols.
Every 2-3 weeks a new aligner will be placed in your mouth, which will be designed and prepared for your teeth based on the predicted outcome. As your teeth start to move to the desired location, new aligners will be fitted and placed on your teeth to continue the momentum and ensure progress is made. Each aligner is designed to move teeth into a particular position and then the next aligner continues to process until the desired result is achieved.
The entire process can be completed in less than two years – faster for some clients depending on the issues to be corrected. By the time treatment is complete, most clients will have had multiple aligners and retainers to produce the desired results. Just like traditional metal braces, clients will be required to wear a retainer for a period of time following treatment to ensure the teeth don’t move. Before you know it, you’ll teeth will be noticeably different and start to look the way you had always hoped they would. Plus, if you experience pain as a result of the misaligned bite, you’ll start to find relief as a result of wearing Invisalign braces as well.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign has many benefits beyond the fact that the plastic aligners are clear and discreet. It’s very common to see teenagers with metal braces, but sometimes they don’t like the attention that braces bring about for them. This attention is even more uncomfortable for adults and Invisalign help them to have their teeth corrected without that unwanted attention. The aligners are easy to remove, clean and store. You can take them out when you need to eat, brush your teeth and floss. Traditional braces are difficult to keep clean, and food often gets caught under the wires and in the brackets. This doesn’t happen with Invisalign. Clear braces, such as Invisalign, are comfortable to wear, even when you first have them placed on your teeth. You won’t feel the tugging pain associated with traditional braces. What’s more, you’ll know what your teeth will look like before you even start your treatment with the 3D imaging technology used by Dr. Monica Neely in Oklahoma City.
Additional benefits include:
- aligning teeth faster and easier than traditional braces
- reducing the risk of decay by properly aligning teeth
- Reduce pain associated with misaligned bites, jaw pain, chewing problems and more

The Invisalign Process
Dr. Neely is happy to meet with new clients and existing clients to discuss suitability for Invisalign clear braces. At our dental office in Oklahoma City, OK, we walk clients through the treatment process from day one.
Dr. Neely will obtain your dental records and determine your suitability for Invisalign by collecting a dental history from you. Pictures will be taken of your teeth, mouth, and gums, to start the process of determining an end result. The process of reviewing suitability and pictures is called Clincheck.
During your second visit, Dr. Neely will review the Clincheck with you, and once you approve, the aligners will be fabricated just for you.
Your aligners are ready! You’ll come to our office for a longer visit to discuss the do’s and don’ts of using Invisalign clear aligners. We’ll show you how to place them in your mouth, how to care for them and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
After the aligners are ready and you leave our office, you’ll be invited back every 4-6 weeks to check progress and determine if new aligners are ready and needed at that time. You’ll change aligners about every two weeks. You’ll need to wear the aligners all the time except when you are eating, brushing your teeth, or flossing.
How to Care for Invisalign Aligners
Keeping the plastic aligner trays clean is an important part of your oral health routine. Running them under lukewarm water helps to keep them clean. It will remove food particles and help to remove any superficial bacteria. You’ll be provided with special cleaning solutions to clean your aligners, and they’ll need to soak in the solution for about 15 minutes to experience a deep cleaning. You’ll be able to “brush” the aligners with a soft-bristle toothbrush. There is no need to add toothpaste to the aligners as the cleaning crystals do the trick of getting them clean. Rinse the aligners before placing them back in your mouth.
If you are an athlete or like to play sports on a regular basis, traditional braces might not be the best option for you, especially if you wear a mouth guard while playing sports. Invisalign makes it easy to remove the aligner trays to place a mouth guard in your mouth and reduces the risk of injury to your mouth when your lips come in contact with the metal brackets on traditional braces. Simply store your Invisalign aligners while you are playing sports and replace them as soon as possible after you have finished your activity. This is a great benefit to basketball players, hockey players, football players, and anyone else who engages in contact sports.
